AI on the Azure OpenAI Service – in Germany

HeroChat uses Microsoft's Azure OpenAI Service for its AI features. The models don't run over the public OpenAI interface, but on Microsoft's enterprise cloud Azure – with all the contractual and technical assurances that Azure offers business customers.

Region: Germany West Central (Frankfurt)

Specifically, we run the AI in the Azure region "Germany West Central" with the data center located in Frankfurt am Main. That means the processing of your requests takes place physically in Germany – not in the USA and not in any other third country.

What happens to your data – and what doesn't

Your requests (prompts) and the AI's responses are processed in the Germany West Central region. According to Microsoft's own statements, the data processed via the Azure OpenAI Service is not used to train its foundation models, nor is it shared with other customers or with OpenAI. That way, control over your content stays where it belongs – with you.

Why location matters for German companies

For many companies, the place of processing isn't a detail but a requirement. Anyone working in regulated industries – for example in healthcare, public authorities, the finance and insurance sector, or skilled trades handling sensitive customer data – often has to prove that personal data does not leave the EEA. With HeroChat on Azure in Germany, that is exactly what's guaranteed.

Processing in the EEA – without a detour through third countries

The European Economic Area (EEA) comprises the EU member states plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. Within this area, a uniform, high level of data protection under the GDPR applies. Because HeroChat's AI runs in Frankfurt, the legally sensitive transfer to third countries such as the USA is avoided – and with it much of the uncertainty around transatlantic data transfers.
