When Meta rolled out its Business Agent worldwide in June 2026, it was above all a confirmation: AI that answers customer inquiries around the clock is no longer a future promise, but what customers expect starting today. The Meta Business Agent is a strong entry point right inside the Meta apps. HeroChat starts from the same place but goes further: European hosting, AI agent and human in one inbox – and every channel, not just WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger.

Data protection: entirely within the EEA instead of the US

The clearest difference first: HeroChat is a German company and processes your data entirely within the European Economic Area. The AI runs on Azure OpenAI in Frankfurt, there is a data processing agreement under GDPR, and the data does not leave the EEA – more on that under AI hosting in Germany.

The Meta Business Agent is a service by Meta and is operated on US infrastructure. For many businesses in the DACH region – especially in healthcare, consulting or the upper mid-market – the question "where do my customers' messages end up?" is not a detail, but a deal-breaker.

One tool instead of two: AI agent and human in the same inbox

The Meta Business Agent is first and foremost a pure agent. When a conversation gets too complex, it hands over to a human – but that person works in a separate tool. The thread breaks: the history is split, and the end-to-end traceability of who answered what is lost.

HeroChat unites both in one inbox, the Unibox. The AI handles the baseline load, your team seamlessly takes over the conversations that need a human – in the same thread, with clear accountability. And you can view and review every automatic agent answer at any time. That is the difference between "the AI is doing something" and an AI agent you actually control.

Pricing: AI answers included instead of billed per message

Meta bills its Business Agent by token usage from 1 August 2026. In practice that means roughly: around 5 cents for every reply the agent sends – the more complex the inquiry, the more expensive. At high message volumes that is hard to budget.

With HeroChat the AI answers are included in your plan. On top comes only the plain WhatsApp fee Meta charges anyway – the low-cost utility message of roughly 1–2 cents. So you don't pay for the AI answer and a variable bill on top, but a predictable plan from 89 €/month plus the transparent channel fee.

Handover to a human – this is where HeroChat's biggest edge lies

The moment a human takes over, the real difference shows. With the Meta Business Agent everything depends on the external tool you hand over to. HeroChat gives your team a full-featured workspace for exactly this:

  • Saved replies – write every good answer once, reuse it in seconds
  • Message rewriting and spelling correction right in the inbox
  • Rich messages with buttons, images and videos instead of plain text
  • a thread where AI and team answers stand side by side

So the answer stays fast and professional – even when it's a human writing, not an agent.

Channels: not just Meta

The Meta Business Agent lives in the Meta apps: WhatsApp, Instagram DM and Messenger. That's strong – but it ends there. HeroChat bundles the same Meta channels plus email, Telegram, SMS, Slack and website chat in one inbox. Why that's faster in support and sales is shown in WhatsApp instead of email.

HeroChat is a fit if…

  • EU hosting and GDPR are a must – your data should not leave the EEA
  • You want AI agent and team in one tool, with full control over every answer
  • Predictable costs matter more to you than a variable per-message bill
  • You need more than Meta: email, Telegram, SMS, Slack and web chat

Meta Business Agent is a fit if…

  • You operate exclusively on WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger
  • A US provider for your data processing is unproblematic
  • You want a pure agent without an integrated team inbox
  • Usage-based billing is uncritical for your volume

Agentic customer service is the next big thing

The fact that Meta is putting its full weight behind its own Business Agent is perhaps the clearest signal of all: automated, agentic customer service is exactly what businesses need and what customers expect – today, not at some point in the future. HeroChat is building that future for the DACH region: hosted in Europe, in one tool, across every channel. Meta confirms the category. HeroChat gives you the solution you control.

Frequently asked questions

Is HeroChat an alternative to the Meta Business Agent?
Yes. Both answer customer inquiries automatically with AI. The difference: HeroChat runs entirely within the EEA (Azure OpenAI Frankfurt), unites the AI agent and your human team in one inbox, and covers not only WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger but also email, Telegram, SMS, Slack and website chat. The Meta Business Agent is a US service limited to the Meta channels.
Where is the data processed – HeroChat vs. Meta?
HeroChat is a German company and runs its AI on Azure OpenAI in Frankfurt; the data does not leave the EEA. The Meta Business Agent is operated by Meta in the US. For many businesses in the DACH region, that is the decisive difference.
What does the Meta Business Agent cost compared to HeroChat?
From 1 August 2026 Meta bills by token usage – depending on complexity, roughly 5 cents per reply the agent sends. With HeroChat the AI answers are included in your plan; on top comes only Meta's plain WhatsApp fee (utility pricing, roughly 1–2 cents per message). HeroChat starts with a free tier, Basic from 89 €/month and Pro from 149 €/month.
Can I control the AI agent's conversations?
With HeroChat, yes – at any time. Agent and team work in the same inbox, every automatic answer is traceable, and you can step in whenever you want. With the Meta Business Agent, handover to a human happens in a separate tool, which makes end-to-end traceability harder.
