Definition: Chatbot
A chatbot is a program that communicates automatically with people in a chat – from simple rule-based replies to AI-powered conversations.
Rule-based and AI-based chatbots
Rule-based chatbots work with fixed decision trees: the user picks options, the bot replies from a script. AI chatbots, by contrast, understand natural language and formulate their own answers. In practice the two are often combined.
What are chatbots used for?
Most often in customer service: opening hours, prices, availability and appointment booking run automatically. In sales, chatbots help you respond quickly and capture leads before interest cools.
